Welcome to Cambrian Active:
The website for Activities, Attractions & Accommodation in the Cambrian Mountains
Try and imagine unspoilt and breathtaking countryside: a place of mountains, moorland, forests, green valleys, lakes and rivers. Imagine somewhere, where you can do pretty much whatever you want to do, when you want to, and at your own pace. Imagine a place that mixes a wealth of activities and attractions with charming hospitality and a rich, living culture.
The Cambrian Mountains, the rugged backbone of Wales, is all this and more. And being only a couple of hours from Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol, it's a lot closer than you might think.
The Cambrian Mountains are less well known than the higher peaks of Snowdonia to the north, or the Brecon Beacons to the south. But what they might lack in renown, they make up for in the quality and variety of their scenery. They provide a landscape full of contrasts, from wild, uninhabited uplands, where only grazing sheep and enigmatic monuments testify to the presence of man, to rich agricultural valleys and bustling market towns that surround the rugged central upland area like a necklace.
It is this unique mixture of open, uninhabited space, of beautiful scenery and room in which to breath, relax and unwind, combined with a wealth of little things to see, taste and enjoy, that makes up the true Cambrian Mountains experience.
